Gold rings VS. Titanium rings (Gold=Value; Titanium = $0)

6mYImagine an engagement ring and the first visual to strike your mind will be that of a diamond embedded in a gold band. Wedding bands and engagement rings have been traditionally made of gold.

An engagement ring denotes how far you can go to impress your bride-to-be. Hence, it is very important that you don’t compromise on the quality of the engagement ring and settle for anything less than the best. Nothing conveys the feeling of love, warmth and commitment better than gold.

Since olden times, weddings rings have been considered a symbol of love and linked to the bestowal of ‘earnest money.’ As per the prayer book of Edward VI, after the words, ‘with this ring I thee wed’ follow the words, ‘This gold and silver I give thee.’ At this point, the groom is supposed to give a leather purse, filled with silver and gold coins to the bride. The royal and expensive quality of gold makes it superior to titanium or any other metals. Titanium is comparatively less expensive than gold and holds less monetary value. For some people, titanium’s low cost makes it less prestigious as a wedding band.

It is not possible to make a prong setting with titanium. Hence, you can’t use it to make a traditional-looking wedding engagement ring unless the prong setting is made from a different metal and then riveted onto the titanium.

In comparison to titanium, platinum or any other trendy metal rings, gold rings appear more elegant and classy. If you wish to buy a fancy diamond ring which will complement the wedding band, titanium may not be a good option for you. On the other hand, gold, especially white gold, with its simplistic style, will complement the diamond ring and match every outfit flawlessly.

Another disadvantage of titanium is that it is very difficult to modify titanium rings. Titanium is a very strong element and can’t be soldered. Hence, if your ring is too large to fit, it is impossible to alter its size and make it smaller. On the other hand, if your ring is too small to fit your finger, the only option you have is to remove the material from the interior part of the band to increase its size and make it slightly bigger. On the other hand, gold is the ultimate choice, when it comes to making comfort rings.

White gold is not only lighter in weight, but is also durable and stronger. Gold has a scratch-resistant property, which enables the ring to maintain a flawless appearance even under strenuous circumstances. Unlike gold rings, titanium rings can easily show signs of scratching and wearing.

In comparison to gold, titanium takes on a dull luster. Hence, it is relatively less shiny.

Because of all these reasons, gold is still the most preferred choice when it comes to buying engagement or wedding rings.
